Field of fire was the area a weapon's fire could reach from a stationary point.

In 2364, Data proposed using USS Enterprise-D's tractor beams to capture the USS Stargazer and limit its field of fire. (TNG: "The Battle")

Later that year, Natasha Yar warned that the security team did not have a clear field of fire to stop Korris. (TNG: "Heart of Glory")
