A fetish was a mystical object that could be worn like jewelry.

In 2373, Chakotay speculated that the ears worn around the Takarians' necks was a fetish. According to the local merchant, "If you're not wearing an ear, you could be fined, even arrested. You wouldn't want that to happen." (VOY: "False Profits")
