Extracurricular subroutine

An extracurricular subroutine was any subroutine non-essential for the functioning of a computer program.

In the 2378 holonovel Photons Be Free, Captain Jenkins declared subroutines governing music, daydreaming, and sexuality, among others, to be extracurricular subroutines for the EMH and therefore ordered Tulak to delete them. (VOY: "Author, Author")
