Exhumation

Exhumation was the process of removing a buried corpse from its gravesite for the purpose of investigating a crime or other phenomenon.

In 2370, following Geordi La Forge and Data's discovery that there was energy coming from Felisa Howard's coffin, they expressed a wish to exhume her body. Ronin objected to this, claiming it would be a desecration of her grave. Sensing there was more to Ronin's concern than this, Captain Jean-Luc Picard then ordered Data to ask Governor Maturin for permission to exhume Howard's body. Ronin continued his protests, saying he'd appeal to Maturin himself. He later appealed to Beverly Crusher for help in stopping the exhumation. (TNG: "Sub Rosa")
