Epsilon Canaris III

Epsilon Canaris III was the inhabited third planet in the Epsilon Canaris system. This planet was located somewhere in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant and was near the Gamma Canaris region.

In 2267, Assistant Commissioner Nancy Hedford was dispatched there to prevent the outbreak of war. The commissioner developed Sakuro's Disease and had to be evacuated; subsequent events made her return impossible, and necessitated the assignment of another mediator. (TOS: "Metamorphosis")

In the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I"), Epsilon Canaris III was a Federation member in 2378.
Based on the structure of their names, both Epsilon Canaris and Gamma Canaris were stars in the same constellation.
In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Epsilon Canaris would be the 5th brightest star in its constellation.
