Energy coil

An energy coil was a component of the power system on California-class starships. They needed to be changed regularly, or the ship could lose all power and require a "jump" to regain function.

In 2380, when the USS Cerritos found the USS Rubidoux adrift powerless in space, acting Captain Amina Ramsey initially thought that Captain Dayton had neglected to change her energy coils again. (LD: "Much Ado About Boimler")
