Elbow grease

Elbow grease was an idiomatic term used to describe the utilization of hard work.

In 2374, after using phaser power was ruled inadvisable to penetrate the seal of a containment field, Kathryn Janeway suggested using elbow grease instead. (VOY: "The Omega Directive")

In 2381, a Starbase 80 pilot, mistakenly referred to Ensign Beckett Mariner as "Bucket Mariner" due to what he called elbow grease on his PADD. Upon his utterance, Mariner corrected him, and said, "That's not what elbow grease is." (LD: "Trusted Sources")
