Duty assignment

A duty assignment was a crewmember's designated task and workstation, subject to change.

In 2369, members of USS Enterprise-D's sciences division were to be given alternate duty assignments on Arkaria Base by their section chief during the baryon sweep the ship was to undergo. (TNG: "Starship Mine")

On USS Voyager, Chakotay was in charge of handing out duty assignments. In 2374, Seven of Nine, bored and lonely following the severing of her link with the Borg Collective, requested a duty assignment from him; specifically, to work in engineering. When Chakotay told B'Elanna Torres about Seven's request, Torres was wary of her motives and didn't want her working there, but Chakotay ordered the chief engineer to allow it. (VOY: "Day of Honor")

In 2375, Seven and Harry Kim were to survey the Varro generational ship from Voyager's astrometrics laboratory. (VOY: "The Disease")
