Drift Mode was one of the settings of the reaction control thrusters utilized by the Federation on most starships. It was used for low-velocity, precision propulsion.

In 2371, Captain Kathryn Janeway ordered Lieutenant Tom Paris to utilize Drift Mode while the USS Voyager was navigating within a large space-dwelling being, so as to not harm the being. (VOY: "The Cloud")
