Directory
A directory at the Noonien-Singh Institute for Cultural Advancement
A directory, such as a telephone or file directory, was a book, device, computer system, or anything else that was meant to provide a person with a list of information on a topic.
For example, the Yellow Pages was a business directory, which listed the phone numbers and addresses of shops, stores, restaurants, and other establishments in alphabetical order. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
Directories in a building were used to direct a visitor to businesses residing in the structure. In 2022, there was a directory in the Noonien-Singh Institute for Cultural Advancement that pointed the way to the genetics laboratory, reactor control room, the educational suite and other places. (SNW: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow")
In 2367, when Geordi La Forge was in the USS Enterprise's cargo bay replacing isolinear chips, he ordered the computer to erase all records of his modifications in the directory. (TNG: "The Mind's Eye")
In 2368, Klim Dokachin told Commander William T. Riker that he had cross-referenced the starship T'Pau in four directories, assuring them that he would find their "missing" ship. (TNG: "Unification I")
