Directional beacon

A directional beacon was a piece of technology sent into space to help starships navigating without the navigational sensors.

In 2374, the Starfleet Class 2 shuttle Cochrane lost its navigational sensors due to a subnucleonic beam of a Hirogen ship. Lieutenant Commander Tuvok was up to request a directional beacon from the USS Voyager to navigate back to the ship. (VOY: "Hunters")
