Digital Vortechs
Digital Vortechs is a Hollywood rental company which provides Avid digital editing equipment to film and television productions, including Star Trek. Using this equipment, Digital Vortechs built the system that was be used to edit the film.
Digital Vortechs counts Star Trek editor Maryann Brandon among its clients, which is why they were assigned to Trek. They previously worked with Brandon on Alias, which was created by Star Trek's director and producer, J.J. Abrams, and on The Jane Austen Book Club (2007).
The company has also supplied editing equipment for such films as Miss Congeniality (2000, starring William Shatner), Showtime (2000, also featuring Shatner), Vertical Limit (featuring Alexander Siddig), Disney's The Kid (2000, featuring Jeri Ryan), The Fast and the Furious, Two Weeks Notice (2002), Death to Smoochy, Dreamcatcher, The Matrix Reloaded (2003), A Mighty Wind (starring Ed Begley, Jr., Paul Dooley, Michael McKean, Gigli (2003, with cinematography by Robert Elswit), and Starsky & Hutch (starring Fred Williamson). Television productions they have worked on include Annie (1999), Helen of Troy (2003, starring John Rhys-Davies), and UPN's The Others (starring John Billingsley and Bill Cobbs).
Their equipment was later used on Brothers & Sisters. Some of their later films include Charlie Bartlett (2007, starring Anton Yelchin), The Dark Knight (2008) and Paramount Pictures' Imagine That (2009, starring Eddie Murphy, Ronny Cox and Vanessa Williams)
