In 2266 of an alternate timeline, the Delta class was a type of fictional Starfleet "attack ship" invented by Captain Christopher Pike in an attempt to bluff against a Romulan fleet at the Neutral Zone. The ships were actually dozens of unarmed and unmanned robotic mining craft collected from the Earth Outpost Stations by Captain James T. Kirk. Kirk had reasoned that, since the Romulans had not contacted the Federation in a hundred years, they would not know what a Starfleet armada looked like. However, despite calling the drones "an act of unparalleled aggression", the Romulan praetor chose to attack regardless. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")
