Contradiction
In psychology, a contradiction was a situation where two ideas or thoughts were in opposition to each other. A contradictory term was known as an oxymoron.
In 2268, Spock told Leonard McCoy that they and the crew were faced with a staggering contradiction; namely, that the tranquilizer administered to Pavel Chekov should have worked, but didn't. (TOS: "Spectre of the Gun")
