Consulting engineer

A consulting engineer was an engineer whose job was to advise those working on a project.

In 2000, Gerald Moss offered Shannon O'Donnel the job of consulting engineer on the Millennium Gate project, as she had the credentials to back it up, provided she got Henry Janeway on board with the project. (VOY: "11:59")
