Constable

A constable was a type of law enforcement officer. It was a civilian position, as opposed to a military rank, and was comparable in concept to a sheriff.

The term was notably used as an unofficial title and term of endearment for the Changeling Odo, the chief of security aboard Deep Space 9 (formerly known as Terok Nor). Kira Nerys first used this nickname when she met Odo in 2365. (DS9: "Emissary", "Necessary Evil") Garak was the last to use this nickname. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")

Odo's mentor Doctor Mora Pol took note the sobriquet, which he described as "a nickname that I barely tolerate." Mora pointed out that it was more than that, calling it an "expression of affection that you find uncomfortable." (DS9: "The Alternate")
