Coma Berenices (Latin for Berenice's hair) was a small constellation visible from Earth's northern hemisphere. Astronomical objects in this constellation were located in the Beta Quadrant. (ENT: "Home")

The name of this constellation was derived from Beta Comae Berenice's Bayer designation. In Bayer designation, the name begins with a Greek letter followed by a genitive of the constellation's name.
Berenice was a reference to Berenice II of Egypt. It was said in legend that she had offered a tuft of her hair to be made into a constellation.
