The book Close-Up, a copy of which was in the personal library of Sherlock Holmes, was written by the British author Len Deighton. The book's name was on the spine. (TNG: "Elementary, Dear Data")

In reality this book by Deighton did not appear until 1972, long after the 1890s setting of Sherlock Holmes.
