Clem

Clem was an anaphasic lifeform.

In a bid to show its superiors that he was capable of communicating with corporeal beings, in 2382 Clem possessed Lieutenant Matt whilst the latter was on an away mission to the oceans of Piskes IX. Once Matt returned to the USS Cerritos, Clem's presence caused the navigation processor to malfunction, forcing the ship to divert to Starbase 80 for a replacement.

While the Cerritos was at the starbase, Clem began possessing additional crew members through the combadge network; starbase personnel remained unaffected as they still used old wall comms. However, Clem quickly became overwhelmed by merging with so many minds and lost control. Those it inhabited became cognitively debilitated, leaving them in a zombie-like state with a compulsion to lick nearby surfaces. Commander Kassia Nox, Lieutenant jg Beckett Mariner, and Doctor Harrison Horseberry eventually traced the source of the affliction to Cetacean Ops. After Clem seized Nox and Mariner, Horseberry made Matt vomit it up by hitting him in the head with a pool skimmer. He then covered Clem with a bucket, ending its control over the Cerritos crew and incidentally also restoring the navigation processor to normal function.

Afterwards, Horseberry constructed a stable vessel in which Clem could reside. Now able to speak directly to people, Clem apologized for its actions, having never intended any harm. Nox welcomed Clem to stay on Starbase 80 as long as it promised not to possess anyone again. Clem accepted, hoping also its superiors would be satisfied by the outcome, as "they [could] be real dicks." (LD: "Starbase 80?!")

Clem was voiced by Jerry O'Connell.
