Buzzer

A buzzer was a device that made a buzzing sound to signify the ending of a period of time.

A buzzer was used to signify the ending of Julian Bashir's final exam at Starfleet Medical. He recalled answering the final question with pericardial membrane just as it went off. (DS9: "Q-Less")
