The British Board of Film Classification is an organization which classifies works exhibited in cinemas (including films, trailers, and advertisements), released on video (including television programs released on video, DVD menus, and bonus content), and available for streaming.
The current certificates are:
- U: Universal
Suitable for all [1]
- PG: Parental guidance

- 12A (cinema releases)
and 12 (video releases)
Suitable for 12 years and over [3]
- 15: Suitable only for 15 years and over

- 18: Suitable only for adults
[5]
- R18: Adult works for licensed premises only

In addition, works can be rejected, meaning they cannot be legally released in the UK, though they can be edited and resubmitted.
