Bridge background chatter
Several lines of background dialogue were recorded for Star Trek: The Original Series.
During one tense scene in Star Trek's second pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before", the damaged Enterprise has narrowly escaped the galactic barrier and Spock orders damage reports from all decks. To represent the corresponding back and forth chatter of these reports, a series of lines were recorded and looped into the rest of the scene; some audible, some masked by the main characters' dialogue.
When the show was picked up for its first season, this "chatter" was cut up, rearranged, and liberally sprinkled throughout various episodes, even when the lines didn't exactly match what was going on in the scene at the time. This included lines which had not appeared in "Where No Man Has Gone Before". The lines were mostly spoken by a male voice with occasional lines by a female voice.
The following list with time stamps is not exhaustive, only the chatter which is the most clearly audible:
"Where No Man Has Gone Before"
- 10:30 Gravity control switching to batteries.
- 10:42 Engineering Deck Three, can you give damage report?
- 10:44 {...} sensor beams, full power on the deflectors.

"Mudd's Women"
