Bridal kidnapping

A bridal kidnapping, also called bridenapping, was a traditional Orion rite of passage in which a bride-to-be was abducted by a rival family. It took place between the save-the-dates and the invitations for the wedding and was purely for show, with the abductors sending demands for the bride's return. Some Orions found this ritual distastefully "gaudy".

In 2381, D'Erika Tendi was abducted shortly before her wedding. Since this was too late for a usual bridal kidnapping, her parents Shona and B'Rt were concerned and asked their elder daughter D'Vana to rescue her. It was eventually discovered that D'Erika had arranged her own kidnapping, due to feeling insecure about stepping into a position that was originally D'Vana's.
