Black bear

The black bear was a species of bear from Earth.

Humans used to collect the bile of black bears or grind down rhinoceros horns as aphrodisiacs, but stopped this practice some time before 2151. That year, Jonathan Archer told Phlox that Humans had collected aphrodisiacs from animals, but not from people. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")

There are two species of black bear, Ursus americanus (American black bear) and Ursus thibetanus (Asiatic black bear). Bile was collected from the Asiatic black bear.
