Bertram (female)

Crewman Bertram was a Human female who served in Starfleet's command division while assigned to Deep Space 9, under Captain Benjamin Sisko, during the early 2370s.

Bertram died in 2373, during a mission to the Gamma Quadrant planet Torga IV, when the runabout she was aboard was destroyed by a Jem'Hadar warship.

Sisko recalled her name, along with the others whenever he read over the casualty list. Jadzia Dax assured him that Bertram had been proud to wear the Starfleet uniform and serve under him, and she knew the risks when she chose that life, so Sisko needn't feel guilty about her death. Bertram was played by an unknown actress. The identity of this character was determined by the reference to her gender; she was the only unidentified female aboard the runabout that was not specifically identified.
Bertram was a late addition to the script, as Sisko's reference to her name was not at all mentioned in the 16 July 1996 revision of the final draft.
