Basic Books is an American book publisher specializing in subjects such as history, science, sociology, psychology, politics, and current affairs. Founded in 1950, it came to be a division of HarperCollins Publishers who sold it the the Perseus Book Group in 1997. [1] The Perseus Book Group was subsequently acquired by the Hachette Book Group in 2016, which continues to publish books under the Basic Books imprint. [2]
