A backseat driver was someone who offered unsolicited advice to the driver of a vehicle, much to the driver's annoyance.

In 2263 of the alternate reality, Leonard McCoy referred to Spock as a "damn backseat driver" when the Vulcan urged him to make a swarm ship go faster or risk being overtaken. (Star Trek Beyond)
