Babu Subramaniam

Babu "Babs" Subramaniam (born 17 August 1950; age 74) is a director hailing from Mumbai, India, who worked as first and second assistant director on the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He previously worked as assistant director on Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. He was also credited as Babu (T.R.) Subramaniam during The Next Generation's first season. At least on one occasion, Subramaniam worked as stand-in for Michael Dorn.
Between 1994 and 2009 he worked as first assistant director on ER for which he won the Director's Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Specials for the pilot episode in 1995 and for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series' – Night for the episode "Into That Good Night" in 1995. The following year he won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series' – Night for his work on the episode "Into That Good Night".
Other television series he worked as assistant director on include The Paper Chase, Hill Street Blues (1986-87), Misfits of Science (1985-88), Dirty Dancing (1988-89), Dream On (1990, starring Chris Demetral and Wendie Malick), Saving Grace (2007, starring Holly Hunter and Leon Rippy), and Moonlight (2007). Film credits include Super Fuzz (1980), The Man Who Fell to Earth (1987, with Robert Picardo and Wil Wheaton), Son of the Morning Star (1991), The Cemetery Club (1993), Royce (1994, with Miguel Ferrer), Chasers (1994, with Dean Stockwell and Seymour Cassel), the short drama Hide & Seek (2006), and The Cheetah Girls: One World (2008).
As director he filmed episodes of Whoopi Goldberg's Strong Medicine (2002, starring Jenifer Lewis), Third Watch (2003), ER (1998-2003), The Division (2004), and One Tree Hill (2005, with Barbara Alyn Woods).
Subramaniam later worked as first assistant director on Outsourced (2010, starring Diedrich Bader), Memphis Beat (2010, starring Sam Hennings and Alfre Woodard), and Falling Skies (2010).
