Astronomical section

The astronomical section was among one of the departmental subdivisions utilized aboard Federation starships during the mid-23rd century.

In 2267, when the crew of the USS Enterprise was attempting to determine any potential causes for the hyper-accelerated aging of the inhabitants of the colony of Gamma Hydra IV, it was noted that the astronomical section had reported that a comet had recently passed by. (TOS: "The Deadly Years")
