Artificial lung

An artificial lung was a prosthetic device that was implanted into a body to replace biological lungs.

In 2371, while discussing Neelix's stolen lungs, Captain Kathryn Janeway suggested they fit him with a pair of artificial lungs. The Doctor explained that it would be too complicated to replicate replacements for his lungs, as his respiratory system was "directly linked to multiple points along his spinal column."
