Alteration

An alteration was a change made in an article of clothing to fit the wearer's measurements. Tailors performed alterations for a living. One example was hemming.

In 2370, Garak assured Julian Bashir that he carried his tailoring equipment with him everywhere, saying, "You'd be surprised how often someone needs their pants let out." (DS9: "Cardassians")

In 2373, Garak made alterations in Kira Nerys' Bajoran Militia uniforms to accommodate her surrogate pregnancy. (DS9: "Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places")
