Adaptability

Adaptability was the ability of an individual or species to have an awareness of their environment or situation and adapt to the new environment or situation by changing their behavior. It was one of the qualities listed in the scientific definition of life and any potential lifeform which exhibited it might have a claim to being alive. (TOS: "The Cage"; TNG: "The Quality of Life")

Having shown more adaptability than other specimens, the Talosians viewed Captain Christopher Pike as the last hope of saving their race from eventual death. (TOS: "The Cage")
