The body of an Abronian

The Abronians had six limbs, a jointed exoskeleton, and a short tail. Their biomatter contained high concentrations of latinum. They were telepathic and could send messages over significant distances. (DIS: "Choose to Live")

History

The original Abronian homeworld was destroyed by a supernova. To escape extinction, the Abronians converted their planet's moon into a spaceship and departed for another habitable world, with their population preserved within cryostasis cocoons housed in a massive cavern beneath the surface. However, when the ship entered orbit around its destination, it suffered a malfunction and the Abronians never revived.

Hundreds of years later in the 3180s, the Abronians were discovered by grave robbers who sought to harvest the latinum within their bodies. One of the Abronians, Taglonen, awoke during their attack and managed to send a telepathic distress call. The only individual in range was J'Vini, a sister of the Qowat Milat who was passing through the star system. After dispatching the grave robbers, she swore an oath to protect the Abronians as a qalankhkai.

In 3190, the appearance of the Dark Matter Anomaly posed a potential threat to the Abronians. Unwilling to risk revealing their existence to anyone, J'Vini resorted to stealing dilithium from the Federation so as to reactivate the Abronian ship's warp drive in case it was needed. A team consisting of Captain Michael Burnham, Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly, Gabrielle Burnham, and another Qowat Milat sister tracked the dilithium to the moon, where Burnham repaired the ship's cryo system while Tilly repaired the engines. Shortly after, the Abronians revived en masse and began launching ships to settle their new homeworld. With her oath fulfilled, J'Vini surrendered herself to Starfleet custody.
