This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it. Reason:
Normal gameplay questions:
- Is it possible to stop this evolution by pressing B?
- Does the Everstone prevent this evolution?
- If Eevee is fainted at the end of the battle, or the player blacks out, does that prevent Eevee from evolving at this point?
- Does it need to be the starter Eevee or could a traded Eevee also evolve this way?
- What happens if multiple Eevee level up with high enough friendship in the same battle while this item is in the bag? Does only the first Eevee evolve?
- If multiple Eevee level up with high enough friendship in the same battle, and the player cancels the first Eevee evolution by pressing B, will the next Eevee evolve?
- If multiple Eevee level up with high enough friendship in the same battle, but the first Eevee is holding an Everstone, will the next Eevee evolve?
Other game mechanics:
- What happens if both the Sun Shard and the Moon Shard are in the bag at the same time, despite this not being allowed in normal gameplay? Make sure to check if the order of the shards in the bag changes the result. (for instance, if the first shard in the bag is the one used)
- If both shards are in the Bag while two Eevee level up with high enough friendship in the same battle, are both shards used to evolve two Eevee in the same battle? Are the shards automatically used in the order that they appear in the bag?
- If the player had multiple Sun Shards (assuming this item has a quantity value in the game data despite being a Key Item, as is the case in the core series), does evolving a single Eevee consume only 1 Sun Shard or all Sun Shards?
- If the player has a Shadow Eevee (although this is unavailable in normal gameplay) while a Sun Shard is in the bag, would it evolve into Shadow Espeon?
|
If an Eevee levels up with high enough friendship while the Sun Shard is in the player's Bag, it will evolve into Espeon. This consumes the Sun Shard.

Trivia
- The Sun Shard is the only possible way to evolve an Eevee into an Espeon in Orre, due to the lack of time-based events in the games taking place in said region.
- Since only a single Sun Shard or Moon Shard is obtainable per game, the player has a single opportunity to evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon (although more of those Pokémon can be traded from other Generation III games) and there is no way to have both Shards in the Bag at the same time.
