The Pass (Japanese: ていきけん Season Pass in Generation II; リニアパス Linear Pass from Generation IV onwards) is a Key Item required to board the Magnet Train between Goldenrod City in Johto and Saffron City in Kanto. It was introduced in Generation II.

In Generation II only, the Japanese name of the Pass refers to a type of train ticket that allows unlimited travel between two stations for a limited period, such as a week or a month. From Generation IV onwards, the Japanese name refers to the Magnet Train (known as リニア Linear).

In the game dialogue, this item is also known as Magnet Train Pass,[1] Pass for the Magnet Train,[1][2] or (lowercase) rail Pass.[1] In some early guidebooks, this was also referred to as Railway Pass.[3]
