Onix Underground (Japanese: イワークのトンネルめぐり Iwark's Tunnel Tour) is an original story written by Akihito Toda, with illustrations by Benimaru Itoh. In English, Onix Underground is the 20th book in the Pokémon Tales series, while in Japanese, it is the 6th book of the series. The short story is an 18 page board book written for children.

Online sources for the English edition of Onix Underground often feature the cover for Gengar's Shadow instead. Confusingly, both covers use the subtitle "Pokémon Tales 20", and webpages with either cover also list the same ISBN and often the same release date or blurb. (There are no sources that ever use the title "Gengar's Shadow" except within the cover image or the blurb.) It is unknown whether "Gengar's Shadow" might be a hoax, or whether there might have been some sort of publication error.

Plot

Onix is digging underground and creating tunnels, only to end up in a tunnel it doesn't recognize. Traveling further into the strange tunnel, it turns out to be a subway station, where Onix scares the passengers. Heading into another tunnel, Onix instead ends up in the sewers and gets washed away by water. Finally, it finds a group of tunnels made by Geodude, which are too small for it and it widens. The book ends showing Onix happy with its tunnels along with the chaos its caused in the human world- rocks littering the subway station and shutting it down, the gas and water being turned off, and Geodude becoming more aggrivated.

Blurb

Onix, a Rock Snake Pokémon, finds traveling underground a lot easier when the tunnels already exist, but things do not turn out so well for the subway system, the gas and water supply, or the other burrowing creatures.
