Nintendo Today! is a free application provided by Nintendo that distributes daily Nintendo-related announcements and reading material to users. It was first revealed by Shigeru Miyamoto in the March 27, 2025 Nintendo Direct, with the app launching in North America, Europe and Japan shortly after the presentation.[1] The app will also release in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan later the same year.[2] It requires a Nintendo account to use.

Functionality

Nintendo Today! home screen with the Super Mario design, during an active event in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

When setting up the application, the user is prompted to select one of five designs based on Nintendo properties that the app's menus will use - Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, or Pikmin. After selecting a design, the user is then asked which games they would like to receive updates for. The options given include the aforementioned franchises as well as Kirby, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Xenoblade Chronicles, WarioWare, Donkey Kong and "Classics".

After set-up, the user is greeted to an animation tied to the design they have chosen (with a different animation playing each day the app is opened) and can then utilize the app's features. The app's home screen lists Nintendo Switch Online updates, Nintendo Direct presentations, and in-game events for games that the user has opted into occurring on the day the app is opened. Various games support the application, including Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which informs the player about ongoing Poké Portal News events, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which informs the player about ongoing Spirit Board events and Event Tourneys.

The app also lists announcements, character biographies, and news articles related to various Nintendo franchises, which change daily. The topics shown are related to the user's preferences regarding which franchises they wished to receive updates for. Events can be viewed in greater detail by accessing the app's calendar function, which also allows users to see any future events that are scheduled. The calendar can be displayed as a widget on the phone's home screen.
