Matriarch (HZ084)

The matriarch (Japanese: 大ばば様 great grandma) is a minor recurring character who first appeared in Where the Land Meets the Sky. She is a resident of Pericarp Town along with her great-grandson and his son, Yuha. She's 103 years old.

When the Rising Volt Tacklers arrived in Pericarp Town after being led there by the Black Rayquaza, they were greeted by Yuha and his father. Yuha demanded they leave, as he believed the Black Rayquaza to be an omen of disaster after hearing stories about it from his great-great-grandmother. Hoping the matriarch's age meant she knew something about Laqua, Friede asked Yuha's father to take him to see his great-grandmother.

Later, at her house, the matriarch explained to Friede that one hundred years ago, she saw the Black Rayquaza fly into the skies after an explosion occurred on Mount Pericarp. She also revealed that after the incident, her mother helped heal an injured long-haired man who had come down from the mountain. Before Friede left, the matriarch warned him to take care if he intended on climbing the mountain.

She briefly reappeared in The Earthshaking White Zygarde along with her family. She said that the feeling that Liko and her friends's battle against the Explorers in Laqua had was very similar to the one a hundred years ago.
