Face boards (Japanese: 顔出し看板B2W2ORAS or 顔ハメ看板SMUSUMphoto stand-in) are a feature that debuted in Pokémon Platinum and have since become a recurring element in the core series games. A face board is a two-dimensional, upright board depicting a Pokémon or person with a hole in the face. When the player stands behind the face board, the player's face fills the hole. In the Nintendo 3DS games, standing behind the face board causes the camera to zoom onto the face board.
Pastoria City: A face board of a Croagunk in front of a forest background is situated outside the entrance to the Great Marsh. After looking at the Croagunk statue in the Poké Mart, if the player stands behind the face board with the player's head sticking out of it, a wild Croagunk will appear, cry out, and walk into the Great Marsh building.
Humilau City: A face board featuring a male and female Frillish is situated outside the Humilau Gym. Standing behind one of the Frillish may trigger an event where a random NPC comes and takes a photo of the player. Notable NPCs include Marlon, the Gym Leader of the Humilau Gym. Taking a commemorative photo at the face board rewards the Face Board Memorial Medal.
Mossdeep Space Center: A face board of an astronaut is located on the first floor of the Mossdeep Space Center in front of a moon background. After the player completes the Delta Episode, a Kecleon with its Hidden Ability hides behind the face board.
Heahea City, Akala Island: A face board of a woman sitting on a rock next to a Bellossom is located inside the Alola Tourist Bureau. Its in-game description describes it as a face board for photographing oneself.
Apple Hills: A face board featuring an Applin in a basket of apples is located in front of the southeast portion of the apple orchard by the main road.
