On May 10, 2021, Katy Perry announced a collaboration with Pokémon for their 25th anniversary[2]. During the first twenty-four hours of release, the video had more than 7.4 million views.[1] On June 7, 2021, a behind-the-scenes of the music video was uploaded on her official YouTube channel.[3]
About the video and its collaboration with the Pokémon franchise, Katy gave the following statement[5]:
"When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes—resilience, igniting your inner light—have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness."

Plot
Katy and her Pikachu head to a lighthouse. They then managed to travel in time and find a younger version of her and Pichu trying to establish herself as a singer. The adult Perry tries to draw the attention of her younger version to various events that would lead her not to give up her dreams and look for her own style. In the end, the young Perry attended her first show in a talent contest. After the performance, the adult Perry returns to the present day with Pikachu.
