I know, technically, you're just an upside-down squid. But to me, you're so much more. You've got those purple tentacles that glow like you've just left a rave, and those piercing yellow eyes that somehow look straight into my soul, but like, in the friendliest way possible. And that chic transparent mantle? Truly high fashion. Those scythe-like fins? Friendship scythes. You understand.

Truly, you've Infiltrated in and Suction-Cupped yourself to our hearts (and minds?) and to those who say ill of you, I simply must speak to the Contrary and Overturn their lies.

Of course, Malamar, you also have the most powerful hypnotic abilities of any Pokémon, and an intelligence that matches us feeble humans. People say you've been tangled up in conspiracies, wiping memories, controlling humans like puppets... but c'mon, who hasn't?

I just can't not appreciate the way you swim backwards just for the fun of it, or how you flash those bioluminescent patterns like you're throwing an underwater disco. And when you use Topsy-Turvy, it feels like you're reminding us that flipping the rules upside down and just going with it is what true friendship is all about.

Sometimes, though, I see you just glowing softly in the night. And in those moments, I remind my mutuals: trust your squid.
