I have switched to Ubuntu 24.04.01 a week ago and it's a fresh install. The problem is when I suspend and wake up my computer, the activities overview doesn't work and it's just black screen. The alt-tab screen is also black. I have two gnome extensions, dash to dock and soft brightness plus. Please see the images below.
My system was plagued with the same issue as well. It's been driving me nuts. I was able to pin point this behavior to my Gnome extensions by turning each extension on and off multiple times until the crash happened. Assuming you also have extensions installed, if you open your Extensions Manager, and navigate to "Upgrade Assistant" and pick your Gnome shell, you should be able to see which extensions are not supported in your system. try turning them off, and then repeat the test above and see if it crashes. If it didn't, then start turning each unsupported extension on one by one and retest, eventually you should find the culprit. In my case, I have Dash to Dock installed as well as Ubuntu Dock, and I believe the 2 aren't playing well together. I haven't experienced the crash since turning Ubuntu dock off. I don't think this is a technical answer at all, but it worked in my case.
