Mind of Mencia

Mind of Mencia is a Comedy Central sketch comedy show starring comedian Carlos Mencia. The skits were usually geared toward controversial topics. Mind of Mencia can be seen as a Spiritual Successor to Chapelles Show. Though Mind of Mencia lasted longer than Chapelles Show, it is generally considered inferior.

Tropes used in Mind of Mencia include:
  • Bland-Name Product: One character has a store named "Heaven-11"
  • Catch Phrase: "Dee dee dee!" Used to indicate mental retardation or just plain stupidity.
  • Dead Baby Comedy
  • Follow the Leader: This is one of the many shows Comedy Central produced to try and recreate the success of Chapelles Show.
  • Politically-Incorrect Villain: A lot of his jokes are rather racist or at the least incredibly insensitive at best.
  • Subverted Kids Show: Carlosaurus Rex is a crude parody of Barney & Friends. As you might expect, it's anything but family-friendly
    • A kid telephones the show, saying that his parents sent their dog "to live on a farm" (a euphemism parents use to explain the death of a family pet). Carlosaurus sings him a song explaining that the kid's dad shot the dog and dumped the body into a river.
    • A boy calls, saying that "all my other friends like girls, but I think I like boys!". Carlosaurus sings him a song, "If you think you might be gay then you're gay!" (to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"), whereupon the boy is then heard saying, 'Hey, Mom, I'm gay!".
  • Surrounded by Idiots: A huge part of Mencia's comedy is ranting about how stupid different people are.
  • Too Good to Last: Invoked by Mencia himself for why it ended at four seasons instead of going for a fifth.
